Looking to Purchase the Latest Television? Take a Look at the LED TVs

If your previous DLP TV has finally given up and it’s time to look for a better set, you might find some surprising technological breakthroughs. If it’s been a while since you last looked into a TV, you may be confused by all the acronyms that refer to the new types of TV sets. There are many different types of TVs including Plasma, LCD, DLP, and LED TVs. Purchasing a new television will also allow you to give up that clunky converter box as all new televisions are HD and digital ready. Nowadays, you can find many different cheap LCD TVs, but if you want the latest technology, look into the LED televisions.

Plasma and LCD televisions use fluorescent tubes as lighting for the screens. Since these tubes are on whenever the television is on, it is often difficult for them to show deep black colors that are needed for sharp pictures. Sometimes this may be due to light leaks and at other times, it may be due to the limitation of fluorescent light. Fluorescent light has limitations on the number of colors that will display through the TV screen. This is likely because of the quality of fluorescent light and not the liquid crystal diodes, which can show unlimited colors. That is the reason fluorescent lighting can limits the number of colors shown on a TV set, while LED lighting can offer a better range of colors.

When buying a LED television, you will want to know about two types of LED TVs. One is to have the LED lights along the edge of the television screen and this is called an edge lit LED television. The other way is to have them behind the screen and this is called a back lit LED TV. You will be glad to know that, both the edgelit and backlit LED technologies consume less power than a fluorescent tube LCD or a plasma TV set. If you want a really thin technology in your TV and pay less, then you would probably want the edgelit LED TV.

The backlit LED TV would give you a better viewing experience if you are willing to pay more. If the sharpest darkest black colors are what you are looking for, you will want to choose the back lit LED television.

If you don’t know where to look, you can pay up to 50 to 100 percent higher for a LED TV compared to a similar size plasma or LCD TV. To find good deals on cheap LED TVs, make sure you compare the prices and features at your favorite store and also at the various online discount shopping websites.
